FUCKKKYOUUU (short)

FUCKKKYOUUU

I will be honest if not for the description and write up by Chelsea Lupkin  I would not get this film by Eddie Alcazar and Flying Lotus.  This black and white short film with its intentional and dark music does create a mix of emotions.  For how well done it is, I missed what it was saying, and I don't understand the title.

If you are looking for an "Artistic Short", something for you to interpret and ponder, you might enjoy this one.

Mad Max 1979

Mad Max

3.5 out of 5 stars.

Adult Stuff- Cheesy One Liners, Bad Language, Booze, Drugs, Pus, Blood, Bondage, Guts, Gore, Hoochie Girls, Boobs, Sex, Vagina, Penis, Penis Trauma

After 10- Starts with nudity and a high speed chase; who doesn't love that beginning?
After 40- It's on between the crazy motorcycle gang and the police!
By The End- A long story about how Max became mad!

After Checking IMDB- Directed by George Miller, who shares the writing credit with James McCausland.  Was great to see the budget at 650,000 and gross over 5.6 million.

If you have not seen this movie I think you should watch it.  It is really neat to see Mel Gibson so young, and this is the type of movie that launches a franchise.  A story about a man that loses everything and is left an empty husk with nothing but revenge and justice to keep him going.  A common plot device used in many franchises, "Dark man, Batman, and Friday the 13th." just to name a few.

If you like knowing back stories, how things started or how a character became the way they are, Then you should definitely watch this film.

I spit on your grave 3 (2015)

I spit on your grave 3

4 out of 5 stars

Adult Stuff- Cheesy One Liners, Bad Language, Booze, Drugs, Pus, Blood, Bondage, Guts, Gore, Hoochie Girls, Boobs, Sex, Vagina, Penis, Penis Trauma

After 10- Alright, setting the tone, legs crossed, ready for whatever comes!
After 40- Not what I expected.
By The End- An other difficult film to watch, but not for the same reasons as the first two.

After Checking IMDB- Sarah Butler returns as Jennifer Hills.  Directed by R.D. Braunstein, who has 4 credits on IMDB so far.  This is the first writing credit by Daniel Gilboy,  but he co produced the first 2 movies in this trilogy.

This movie seems an appropriate follow up to the first one, telling the tale of the victim and her attempt to carry on with life while dealing with the post traumatic stress caused by the events of the first movie.  Life is enough of a struggle without the nightmares, memories, and trust issues.

I feel this movie makes a great attempt at depicting how a victim could feel, and how even though the event may be over, it changes everything about you and how you view the world.

As a movie it tells a story well, the challenge is how do you tell such a difficult story in such a way that makes people want to hear it; and the underlying message.

Don't Move (short)

Don't Move (short)

Recommended

This 13 minute movie plunges right into the middle of a Friday games night with friends.  No wasted time, and no way or where to run, you're in the thick of it, and it's a blood bath.

One piece of a 13 part series from http://www.bloodycuts.co.uk/, I found this short on the shortoftheweek.com  site.

Directed by Anthony Melton, written by David Scullion, with Ian Whyte as the demon.

This smart, fantastic looking short is an easy recommend, and I suggest taking the time to read the article by Ivan Kander to get all the juicy extra info on not only this short, but where you can find more great shorts.

Exeter

Exeter

4 out of 5 stars.

Adult StuffCheesy One Liners, Bad Language, Booze, Drugs, Pus, Blood, Bondage, Guts, Gore, Hoochie Girls, Boobs, Sex, Vagina, Penis, Penis Trauma

After 10- The setup: lots of young adults partying at an abandoned mental hospital... (what could go wrong?)
After 40- A refreshing change from the usual.
By The End- Interesting twists.

After Checking IMDB-
Directed by Marcus Nispel.
Written by Kirsten McCallion, also credited as Kristen Elms and Marcus Nispel.
Staring Stephen Lang, Kelly Blatz, Brittany Curran and Gage Golightly, among others.

The rating on Netflix was only 2 stars, and my oldest daughter wanted me to watch it, so I was on guard right from the start.  Nothing personal, but my 16 year old daughter hasn't always suggested movies that I enjoyed.  This movie was a bundle of pleasant surprises.

If you are debating watching this movie let me tell you that the people in charge are responsible for 3 of the biggest movie remakes in the last decade.

Right from the start we have some mystery, which is quickly followed up by a detailed history lesson of the location for our film.  The movie has good effects, and doesn't take place on a dark screen where you can't see anything.  I guess I am getting old, I hate straining to see what is going on.

There are a handful of good ideas, scenes, kills and thrills that all made this movie better than the 2 star rating it received on Netflix.

Watching the movie before I check IMDB is a very important thing to me.  I do not want to risk any spoilers, nor do I want to build up any expectations about characters or plots or read any other reviewers titles etc.  I mention this because after watching the movie I went to IMDB expecting to see a fresh director; imagine my surprise.  Marcus Nispel, a name I hope is more ingrained in my mind now, is not new to IMDB.  With such movie remakes as Texas Chainsaw Massacre and Friday the 13th under his belt Marcus did a great job with this film.

Kristen McCallion is the other writing credit on this movie.  She is known for Texas Chainsaw 3D, which I thought was a great reboot of the franchise.

I am not saying that this movie is without fault, what I am saying is it is not your run of the mill movie.  Let go of your preconceived notions, get comfy, and enjoy the show.

Until next time everybody, remember, Protect Your Privates!

Feed the Gods

Feed the Gods

 3.5 out of 5 stars.

Adult Stuff- Cheesy One Liners, Bad Language, Booze, Drugs, Pus, Blood, Bondage, Guts, Gore, Hoochie Girls, Boobs, Sex, Vagina, Penis, Penis Trauma

After 10-Starts with a dark night exchange/escape scene, then jumps ahead like 20 years.  Let's see where we're heading.
After 40-Creepy town!!
By The End- Seemed like a lot of build up.

After Checking IMDB- Written and Directed by Braden Croft, this film was shot in Vancouver in 20 days.  Starring Shawn Roberts, Tyler Johnston, and Aleks Paunovic to name just a few of the actors you will probably recognize from somewhere.

I found this movie to be an interesting take on the "Big Foot" phenomenon.  I notice there has been a number of big foot related flicks lately, and after seeing this one I am curious if the others  have unique spins as well.

Braden did a good job with this one, his other movie is a short, which I will have to track down and review; which means if Braden puts out any other movies, they are automatically on my "View" list.

The Big Short

The Big Short

5 out of 5 stars.

Adult StuffCheesy One Liners, Bad Language, Booze, Drugs, Pus, BloodBondageGutsGore, Hoochie Girls, Boobs, SexVaginaPenisPenis Trauma

After 10- How are they going to tackle this issue with this cast?  I am so curious!
After 40- Holy crap! This movie has my attention!  Smart, funny, and you can understand it.
By The End- I wanted to watch it all over again.  A great movie.

After Checking IMDB- Directed by Adam McKay, who shares the screen play credit with Charles Randolph.  The book credit goes to Michael Lewis.  The cast is an incredibly diverse group; too many to mention, but they all deserve recognition for helping breath such life into this movie.  I feel the powerful cast that was assembled for this film was needed because of how important it is.

I do not often write about movies like this one. I enjoy the simple pleasures of beautiful women and big explosions.  Fast cars and fight scenes are what I was raised on. While I love the dynamic environment that is today's entertainment industry, this movie takes on an important issue that hits close to home, and left many homeless. If the lost homes, savings and futures weren't bad enough, it's made worse when so many people still don't understand what happened. This movie solves that problem. It breaks down, in a surprisingly entertaining way, something that is typically a sleep aid. After watching this movie I had a better grasp and understanding of how unbridled greed destroyed so many lives.  I had read Peter Schiff's book "Crash Proof" and had what I felt was a basic understanding of the bubble.  This movie explained it better and was able to delve deeper into the even bigger picture of the bonds.  Gaining a better understanding however did not make me feel any better about the bail outs, nor did it ease my frustration over what I perceive as a complete lack of justice.

I reserve 5 star ratings for movies I would love to see a sequel too.  In the case however I am hoping that the sequel deals with the next bubble that is threatening the economy, and if it isn't to much to ask, maybe it can come out before the shit hits the fan?

Until next time everybody, remember, Protect Your Privates!

Chainsaw (short)

Chainsaw

Created for Eli Roth's Crypt TV this flick is an easy recommend.  Pun intended when I say this short cuts right to the heart or the story, and makes short work of it.

Directed by David Dinetz and Dylan Trussell this movie asks a simple "what if"  and gets a fantastic answer.

James Frey stars as the menacing "Chainsaw" and the write up by Ivan Kander is informative, easy and fun to read.

The Birds 1963

The Birds 1963

 4 out of 5 stars.

Adult Stuff- Cheesy One Liners, Bad Language, Booze, Drugs, Pus, Blood, Bondage, Guts, Gore, Hoochie Girls, Boobs, Sex, Vagina, Penis, Penis Trauma

After 10-With the exception of some birds behaving oddly really there is nothing to suggest this movie will be scary or exciting.
After 40-I think if anyone can be called the master of suspense and the slow tell it might be Alfred Hitchcock.
By The End-If this isn't one of the scariest movies, and if you don't consider Alfred Hitchcock a master of terror, then you were not paying attention.

After Checking IMDB- Of course directed by Alfred Hitchcock, Daphne Du Maurier wrote the story and Evan hunter has the screenplay credit. After checking through the cast I came across something entertaining, Veronica Cartwright played the daughter in this movie, but she went on to be in many other shows, (over 100) including "Alien"; a personal favourite of mine!

All the nostalgia aside let us imagine this movie at the time.  a 2.5 million dollar budget.  That is a decent amount for any film today, let alone one from over 50 years ago.  A story with no explanation, a fantastic "what if" and glimpse into a weekend in one small town.  Without knowing how or why it leaves one's mind free to theorize and fear the "what if it happens again?"

After reading the FAQ on IMDB I enjoyed some of the questions and some of the info about the alternate endings.

The 4 star rating is my rating as if I saw this movie in the year it was released.  My only complaint is that it is a long movie and there are parts where we seem to spend a lot of time getting to know the mother character.  I can understand why a person would skip this flick for a newer, faster paced movie with better effects and bigger stars.  If you take away the effects, star power, and cut to the chase attitude of a lot of today's films, and just compare stories, you might find new life in these classic gems.

Until next time everybody, remember, Protect Your Privates!

30 days of night

30 Days of Night

4.5 out of 5 stars.

Adult StuffCheesy One Liners, Bad Language, Booze, Drugs, Pus, Blood, Bondage, Guts, Gore, Hoochie Girls, Boobs, Sex, Vagina, Penis, Penis Trauma

After 10- Great idea, and a mystery... sweet!
After 40- Good and interesting! Messy eaters for vampires though, lots of wasted blood...
By The End- Not flawless, but very good story and idea.

After Checking IMDB-
Director David Slade.  This movie was directed by him after "Hard Candy".
Steve Niles shares the writing credit with Stuart Beattie and Brian Nelson; he shares the comic credit with Ben Templesmith.
Staring Josh Hartnett, and Melissa George,

This movie starts off by setting the tone very well.  Then the action starts and doesn't really stop till the end.  One of the things I liked about this movie is that it stayed focused on the problem at hand, monsters killing everybody!  Even though the stars are having trouble in their relationship hardly any screen time is spent on this.  "Whatever happened happened and that can wait till we deal with this shit storm!!"

I have not read the comic or comics in question, but this particular breed of Vampire has my approval.  I grew up with distinguished Vampires whom enjoyed a game of cat and mouse while they seduced your love.  This breed I appreciate for their simplicity.

If you like your vampires dark and bloody, then sit back, crack open your favourite bottle of red wine, and enjoy the show.

Until next time everybody, remember, Protect Your Privates!

Bite Me

Bite Me

This 9 minute short from Machinima.com is a teaser introduction to their web series hosted on youtube.

I have watched lots of youtube videos from Machinima.com, and didn't realize they had a webseries.
Looks good and looks like they had a lot of fun making it,
If you aren't full of the undead yet then I recommend checking this one out too.  Now that I know about it I am adding it to my list as well.

The write up by Jason Sondhi will give you more info about Jarrett Lee Conaway, and is a quick,  easy read.

Preservation

2.5 out of 5 stars.

Adult StuffCheesy One Liners, Bad Language, Booze, Drugs, Pus, Blood, Bondage, Guts, Gore, Hoochie Girls, Boobs, Sex, Vagina, Penis, Penis Trauma

After 10- Nothing unique yet, setting an uneasy atmosphere. Spoiler 1.
After 40- OK, let's see where this goes.  (and hopefully it picks up the pace a bit.)
By The End- Not getting that time back.

After Checking IMDB- Christopher Denham wrote and directed this little thrill piece, staring Wrenn Schmidt, Aaron Staton, and Pablo Schreiber.

Christopher had some good ideas, but I don't feel like he expanded on them enough to really bring the audience into the film.  The stars in this flick are no strangers to the big or small screen, but something was missing from this flick.  I do not think it was anyone thing that can have a finger pointed at it, To me the attempts at building suspense and intrigue missed their mark.  The good components didn't hit right and the slow component worked too well.

This was the first film I have seen by Christopher Denham, and even though it may not have worked for me, it has gotten me interested in what he has done and what he has in store for us.  I feel it is safe to say this is not the last movie from Christopher I will review.

Until next time everybody, remember, Protect Your Privates!

Flight of the dead (2007)

Flight of the Dead

3.5 out of 5 stars.

Adult Stuff- Cheesy One Liners, Bad Language, Booze, Drugs, Pus, Blood, Bondage, Guts, Gore, Hoochie Girls, Boobs, Sex, Vagina, Penis, Penis Trauma

After 10- Standard introductory beginning, all the cliches are present!!
After 40- Seems like a lot of guns on a plane.
By The End- Oh man.  Look and feel were good, but the story was full of more holes than the plane.

After Checking IMDB- Directed by Scott Thomas, no stranger to IMDB, who shares the writing credits with Sidney Iwanter, and Mark Onspaugh.  This film stars many actors who you will probably recognize from many different movies and shows, but if you are like me you will not be able to name most of them without IMDB.  One such actor is Erick Avari, with over 140 actor credits on IMDB this man and his voice are easily recognized, and he is easily one of my favorites.

I was hoping to find out what the budget for this film was, but was not able to.  This film looked good for the most part, and keeping in mind that it is over 7 years old, I think the production and effects companies did a great job.

If you are up for a pretty good looking zombie on a plane flick; this is one.  With the exception of the "Fear the Walking Dead: Flight 462" there seems to be no other zombie on a plane movies out there; which in my mind earns this movie an extra star.

Until next time everybody, remember, Protect Your Privates!

The Green Inferno

The Green Inferno 2013

3 out of 5 stars.

Adult Stuff- Cheesy One Liners, Bad Language, Booze, Drugs, Pus, Blood, Bondage, Guts, Gore, Hoochie Girls, Boobs, SexVagina, Penis, Penis Trauma

After 10- I enjoy a good story set up that makes sense, and this is one of them.
After 40- "No! Snap! Everyone is not ok!"
By The End- Not what I expected, but still an ok story.

After Checking IMDB- This long awaited cannibal flick, directed by Eli Roth who shares the writing credit with Guillermo Amoedo, had tons of hype and build up.  For a cannibal movie I was expecting more nudity, blood, and general savagery.  For those who have come to expect a certain amount of blood to be spilled in his films, you may be disappointed.

Starring Lorenza Izzo, who has been a very busy actress with 12 credits on IMDB in 5 years.  I want to give special mention to the "bald headhunter"  Ramon Llao, who I thought really brought the aggressive tribal feeling to the screen.

After years of anticipation and build up the movie did not deliver what I expected from Roth.  I'm not saying I expected it to be a "Jungle Hostel" but his earlier movies were packed with action and blood.  This flick seems like a step towards letting the viewer's mind carry them into their own dark abyss of gory details.

If you have skipped Eli Roth's movies in the last little while because of his earlier work, you may want to give this one a try.  It is not without it's traumas, but I found it not as "blood squirting in your face".

Until next time everybody, remember, Protect Your Privates!
