Cannibal Holocaust 1980

Cannibal Holocaust 1980

 3 out of 5 stars.

Adult Stuff- Cheesy One Liners, Bad Language, Booze, Drugs, Pus, Blood, Bondage, Guts, Gore, Hoochie Girls, Boobs, Sex, Vagina, Penis, Penis Trauma

After 10- OK, simple idea, what happened to the other group.  Great, let's go!
After 40- Found the footage, kinda.
By The End- I was conflicted.

After Checking IMDB- Written by Gianfranco Clerici and Directed by Ruggero Deodato this film for the time caused quite a stir.  Looking back at it now it could be described as a Blairwitch style found footage flick with an underlying message about the state of competitiveness in TV ratings at the time.

To imagine it in the day, it could have been akin to the "torture porn" of the last decade.

I had never heard about this movie until I was reading up on "The Green Inferno", and why it took so long to come out.  I came across an article that referenced both movies, and felt I should watch it to better understand the article by Brett Arnold.

After reading the article and watching the movie I do not agree with Brett, but was grateful to learn about this movie.

If you like cannibal movies, and enjoy older films then this one should be on your list.  If you prefer your films with high production, and a modern feel, then you may want to pass on this one.

Until next time everybody, remember, Protect Your Privates!

Spoilers**

**I believe animals were harmed in the making of the film so if that bothers you then skip the film.
**The penis trauma is at 1:24:50 to 1:25:10

Arret Pipi (short)

Arret Pipi 2015 short

4 out of 5 stars.

This 5 minute short is written by Nils Vleugels and directed by Maarten Groen.  I did not get this short at first, but after reading the write up by Rob Munday I learned it was based on a Japanese urban legend.  This cleared up some of my confusion and increased the enjoyment of the short.

The stars of this short, Bo Maerten, Benjamin Moen, Pim Lambeau and Poal Cairo all did a great job bringing this short to life on the screen.  Bo Maerten really shines in this flick and her performance is more than noteworthy.

I hope I have a chance in the future to see something else from this writer or director.

Until next time everybody, remember, Protect Your Privates!

Last Shift 2014

Last Shift

4.5 out of 5 stars.

Adult Stuff- Cheesy One Liners, Bad Language, Booze, Drugs, Pus, Blood, Bondage, Guts, Gore, Hoochie Girls, Boobs, Sex, Vagina, Penis, Penis Trauma

After 10- Oh yeah, creepy AF!
After 30- WOW!  Great creepy vibe!  I am all tense and ready for shit to jump out of every shadow!
By The End- Ahhhh snap, tense and on the edge of my seat for most of the flick.

After Checking IMDB- Anthony DiBlasi directed this chilling, eerie ghost story and shares the writing credit with Scott Poiley; who also has a producer credit for this film.

This is the first film I have seen from this duo, and it had everything you need for a throat clenching edge of your seat ride along.

If you love a good ghost story this one has a little of everything for you. Things moving on their own, creepy stains, phone calls, flickering lights; a whole array of some of the best ghost maneuvers seen on the big screen.

I think I read somewhere that this movie had a small budget.  I was not able to confirm that, but since the cast list is only 14 people and everything seems to happen in one place it would make sense they wouldn't have a lot of budget, or they didn't need much.  If we run with the assumption that this is a low budget cabin in the woods style film, then it is very important to point out the acting of our protagonist Juliana Harkavy.

Juliana is a powerful actor.  Her filmography spans more than 2 decades, and the only way that a movie this size can be successful is with a lead that can carry every scene.  All the special effects, and wonderful ambiance of an actual abandoned police station are not enough if your actor can not sell them.

I did not recognize Juliana from the walking dead, and I am quite aghast at myself for that, but considering the quality of effects in the walking dead, and the skill set of Juliana, I hope she takes it as a compliment that in this movie I saw her only as the Rookie cop she was portraying.

If you are in the mood for chills and scares, a good story and good acting, put this one on your list.

Until next time everybody, remember, Protect Your Privates!

Spoilers**
-I saw the ending coming, possibly because I have seen too many of these movies, but possibly because it is something scary that really strikes at my core.
-If I had to say something bad it would be the volume range, from straining to hear the voice on the other end of the phone to the bangs down the hall that interrupt it, keep the remote close, and your finger on the volume.

The Pride of Strathmoor (2014 short)

The Pride of Strathmoor

I give this well made flick 3.5 out of 5 stars.

This 9 minute animated short is written, directed, and animated by Einar Baldvin, staring the voice of Geoffrey Gould.

This fictional portrayal of a few days in a south US town near the turn of the 20th century feels true to what we can imagine of the time. If any of these points appeal to you I am sure you will enjoy the short and the write up by Rob Munday.

Although the subject matter is not of interest to me personally, one should not let that take away from the quality of the short. The fun and freedom offered by being able to draw and animate your vision is one of the aspects of animation that I am jealous of.  If you like animation, boxing, or turn of the century stories, I hope you enjoy this one.

Until next time everybody, remember, Protect Your Privates.

House of 1000 Corpses

House of 1000 Corpses

3.5 out of 5 stars.

Adult Stuff- Cheesy One Liners, Bad Language, Booze, Drugs, Pus, Blood, Bondage, Guts, Gore, Hoochie Girls, Boobs, Sex, Vagina, Penis, Penis Trauma

After 10- and we wonder why clowns make us uncomfy.
After 40- everyone is sooo screwed!!!
By The End- Some mixed emotions to be honest.

After Checking IMDB- Written and Directed by Rob Zombie, and starring many great actors.

This movie is what I would call the angry child of  Natural Born Killers meets Texas Chainsaw Massacre.  1000 creatively bloody and insane scenes of a huge extended family of  murderous rebels. I found this movie to be a visual bombardment of crazy what if's that left me reeling with many unanswered questions.  The way the story seemed to jump from one incomplete thought to the next with film negative effects and channel surfing chatter; at least I didn't get a headache.

Rob Zombie with this movie easily proved that he knows scary.  This movie had all the right components for mastering the genre.but this was his first film,    For a first film this was a hell of a place to launch from; and we all know what happened next.

Until next time everybody, remember, Protect Your Privates!

Invaders (2014 short)

Invaders

I give this short 3.5 out of 5 stars.

This 7 minute short, written and directed by Jason Kupfer, has epic amounts of blood, and two unbelievably stupid antagonists. Regarding production and blood, this short has enough of both.  As for dialogue, story, and flow (pun intended) there is something missing from this short.

This short is not the first piece of work from Jason Kupfer, and it shows he has an understanding of how to mix funny and bloody.  If he puts out anything else down the road I would not shy away from watching it; I need to go watch his older works.

I was able to chuckle at this film, but without the "why do I care info", I could not get "interested" in the characters.

If you do watch this short, https://www.shortoftheweek.com/2015/11/24/invaders/ at least take the extra time to read the write up by Chelsea Lupkin, it is entertaining and includes some information from Jason Kupfer.

Time Lapse

Time Lapse 2014

 4 out of 5 stars.

Adult Stuff- Cheesy One Liners, Bad Language, Booze, Drugs, Pus, Blood, Bondage, Guts, Gore, Hoochie Girls, Boobs, Sex, Vagina, Penis, Penis Trauma

After 10- Just enough mystery and creepy ambiance to get me interested.
After 40- Oh, when is it too much?  When does so good go soooo bad?
By The End- Ohhh, I love a fun, smart movie that makes ya think.  Reminds me a little of "Memento", but easier to keep track of.

After Checking IMDB- Directed by Bradly King who shares the writing credit with Bp Cooper.  Interesting points are the reference to a 1961 Twilight Zone and that the filmmakers entirely self financed the flick and wrote the script to fit their budget.

If you decide not to watch it please let it be because you are not in the mood for this type of flick or because temporal movies give you a headache, I know sometimes that's the case for me!

For his first full length film, and with only 4 other shorts under his belt, Bradly King knocks this one out of the park.  Bp Cooper is no stranger to film projects either, and all I can say is if this duo come up with something else down the road I will be eager to see it!

Conventional 2015 short

Conventional

This 9 minute short written, directed and staring Karen Gillan is only hard to watch because I felt it addresses a topic few people want to recognize.

So many people want to be a star.  They grow up hoping and planning; thinking "That will be the day!  That will solve all my problems."  But in today's real world we should temper these dreams with the realization that it will not last forever.  If it happens and you succeed that is great, but realize this dream is fleeting, and there is always another artist on the verge of discovery, and that their discovery may end your time in the spot light, just as your discovery may have ended someone else's time in the spotlight.

Other than a smart subject matter that might be a jagged pill for some people to swallow, this film is quick, fun and fantastic.  Karen did a great job with this film, and I can't help but wonder how often she wrestles with the reality she portrays in this short.

The write up by Ivan Kander after the short is a quick fun informative read.  An easy 4 out of 5 stars.  Take 10 minutes and enjoy the film and write up.  https://www.shortoftheweek.com/2015/10/27/coventional/

There's Nothing out there. (1990)

There's Nothing out there.

3.5 out of 5 stars.

Adult Stuff- Cheesy One Liners, Bad Language, Booze, Drugs, Pus, Blood, Bondage, Guts, Gore, Hoochie Girls, Boobs, Sex, Vagina, Penis, Penis Trauma

After 13- The first mistake has been made!!
After 40- can't stop watching...
By The End- OMG!  Epic and awesome for it's time, still a fun movie to watch even today.

After Checking IMDB- Written and Directed by Rolfe Kanefsky, who was 20 at the time, was really onto something with this film.  If it had been able to reach more people I am sure it would have caught on and potentially sped up the evolution of the horror genre, and possibly created a whole new sub genre that could have filled the void left by the franchises that had run out of ideas.

I had never even heard of this movie before I watched the short film "Copycat"  As the opening credits rolled I noticed that Lloyd Kaufman and Michael Herz presented it; which is a doubled edged sword.

Mr. Kaufman, from Troma fame, is one of the nicest men I have ever met; and without a doubt one of the most generous and gracious to his fans.  I know only a small portion of what Troma has been through in trying to get their films out to the masses.  Hence the double edged sword.  Without Kaufman and Troma many films might not have seen any screen, let alone the big screen.  That being said, I grew up surrounded by people who were more about stars, effects and budgets.  When they saw "Troma" they knew it could be filled with cheesy effects, bimbo boobies and a not so serious story line.

This movie is unique and worth a watch mainly because it is the first appearance of the "Horror Expert" (At least as far as I know.)
Played by Craig Peck the character has seen every horror movie in the video store, and asks the tough, honest, and funny, questions that are needed to survive when one finds oneself in a horror movie.

Copycat (2015 short)

Copycat

2 out of 5 stars.

This short flick, although scary and heartbreaking, is more informative documentary, than scary movie. (Ohh, almost pun there,)

This 9 minute short is a history lesson about a film,  "There's nothing out there." , that could have been a cult classic, so I had to watch the film it is about.

As for "Copycat", although it did offer up a lot of interesting points, and had some great key phrases like
"blueprint for scream"
"first self aware horror movie"
and it does have a character that "has seen every horror movie in the video store" and knows how "not to die" and "warns his friends"

This documentary gave me the impression that this movie flopped in the box office because of poor timing, bad luck and the "collapse" of a genre.  I felt I had to check that, and looking back at the movies that were released in 1990 (thank google) I disagree.  Poor timing and bad luck may have played a part, but what I found most disturbing in my research (as you'll read below), was that the short did not mention the production and distribution houses used for the film.  I love independents, that is no secret; but it is important to keep in mind that for a film to become a cult classic, or even a hit, it has to reach the masses, and they have to be interested in seeing it.

I feel there are several factors not mentioned in the short movie that are important as to why the film did not take off.
1) Trailer- As any movie viewer from the 80's knows, it seemed there were only 2 announcers for movie trailers.  1 guy, when you heard his voice, you knew the movie was from a big budget house and you were likely to see it in theaters.  The other guy, when you heard his voice, you knew you were in for a lower budget flick that might not even make it to the theater near you.
2) Troma-  By the time this movie came out, when you saw the title page "Lloyd Kaufman Presents"  you knew it was Troma related or based, and unless you were a Troma fan you might choose to put this movie lower on your must see list.
3) Troma- Lloyd Kaufman, one of the nicest most gracious men I have ever had the pleasure of meeting, will be the first to tell you that distribution for his films as been one of the biggest struggles he has faced through out his career.
4) The movie itself- Now having a self aware character in the movie pointing out stupid mistakes was new and unique, but the movie itself was no better or worse than any of the other flicks of the time.  This character did add a new aspect, but one unique victim does not make or alter a genre.  Especially if few people see the movie they are in.
5) The actors-  I enjoyed these actors and their talents, but they were not big name stars, and without at least someone to draw the fans to the theaters, the theaters have to pick what they think will draw people in.

As for the phrase "a blueprint for Scream", I have to disagree.
Like most horror flicks it had your standard cast jock, cheerleader, virgin, geek and goofball. And it had a character who had seen all the movies and knew the "Rules to survive a horror movie."  and that is where the similarities end for me.

Scream was a smart, well written slasher flick with twists and turns that kept you guessing till the end.  It had big stars, and a big budget.

'There's Nothing Out There' is a school break flick that takes place in a house in the woods near a pond.  It has your standard cast of characters and introduces us to the "Horror movie expert" who spends the movie giving advice to try and save himself and his friends from certain doom.  A horny alien antagonist, is not comparable to the smart revenge plot of scream.

Although the self aware character in "There's nothing out there" was funny, and well enough acted by Craig Peck, the character does not carry the film.   Just like Jamie Kennedy's character in Scream was wonderful and entertaining, he did not carry the film.

In summary I suggest you skip this one and head straight to the movie it's about.

Until next time everybody, remember, Protect Your Privates!

The Thing in the Apartment (2015 short)

The Thing in the apartment.

4.5 stars out of 5.

This 11 minute short is great.  It puts you on edge quickly and then drives you over it.  Do sounds in your apartment while your alone scare you?  Do shapes in the dark shadows creep you out?  Grab your blanket, grab your teddy, and hold on.

Written and directed by John Ross, who has been adding credits to his IMDB since 2001 really hits the nail on the head with this flick.

I don't believe I have seen any of the other work from this fellow, but let me add a "yet" to that statement. I am making a note to watch something else from Mr. Ross to get a more rounded feel for him and his works.

The write up after the film by Ivan Kander is informative and easy to read.  I recommend that to you as well.

It will also explain the link between Mr. Ross and Eli Roth.

This flick seems to me to be almost a trailer or teaser for a new horror flick.  Part of me is like "Woot! That would be awesome!!"  but part is like "this is a fun film just as it is, would more ruin it?  I'll let you decide for yourself, but feel free to let me know.

Until next time everybody, rememeber, Protect Your Privates!

Circle 2015

Circle

3.5 out of 5 stars.

Adult Stuff- Cheesy One Liners, Bad Language, Booze, Drugs, Puss, Blood, Bondage, Guts, Gore, Hoochie Girls, Boobs, Sex, Vagina, Penis, Penis Trauma

After 10- Oh, dam!  What would I do?  How do we get outta this?
After 40- This is not looking good. (the situation the characters are in not the movie)
By The End- Interesting idea, don't know if I like the ending, but food for thought at the very least.

After Checking IMDB- Written and directed by Aaron Hann and Mario Miscione this appears to be their first movie, having only one tv show on the imdb prior to this.  Do not let that tid bit of info stop you from watching this flick.

If you enjoy movies with low budgets but still offer potential for lots to think and talk about then sit back and enjoy this film.  If you are looking for action or adventure, special effects or even blood... pass this one up till the mood hits you.

Daybreakers

Daybreakers

4 out of 5 stars.

Adult Stuff- Cheesy One Liners, Bad Language, Booze, Drugs, Puss, Blood, Bondage, Guts, Gore, Hoochie Girls, Boobs, Sex, Vagina, Penis, Penis Trauma

After 10- The Spierig brothers paint an interesting picture of Vampires who seem to have reverted to what they once were evolving above.  Great imagery, I'm in let's go!!
After 40- Wow, interesting flick, good visuals and actors.  I wanna see where this goes!!
By The End- A different type of vampire and flick.  Not the worst adaptation I've seen, but not my favorite.

I am a vampire fan from way back!!  I have seen a great many variations, mutations, and alterations to one of the most noble, powerful and truly ageless monsters of all time.  This movie asks a couple interesting "what if"s, and comes up with some creative answers.  I personally do not agree with the Spierig brothers answers, I would have answered the "what if"s differently, and I have my reasons for that.

After Checking IMDB- I found out about this movie while looking up the Spierig brothers after writing the review on their movie "Predestination".  I enjoyed the look and feel of that movie, but not the story so much.  In doing the research I wanted to check out their other work.  Which brings me to this flick.  This movie is beautiful.  The blood and effects, wicked!  The dialogue, locations, and acting, were great.  It doesn't hurt I am a Willem DaFoe fan since "The Boondock Saints".  I am not known to shy away from an Ethan Hawke film, and who doesn't love to hate Sam Neill in an evil role?

This movie has a slightly different take on the vampire, but no worse than any other vampire movie of the last 10 years, and actually better than some I could mention.  We need writers who can push the envelope, come up with something new or different.  It might not always be a hit, it might not even be well received, but we need people thinking new thoughts and trying new things.  The Spierig brothers are doing that, and I am glad for it!

I give this movie 4 out of 5 stars.  If you enjoy variations on the classic vampire, and you're up for enjoying a well told "what if'" flick, then this one is easy for me to recommend to you.  If you are an old school, "Don't mess with the classic vamp" activist, then skip over this one and go watch Fright Night again.

Until next time everybody, remember, Protect Your Privates!

Predestination 2014 sci-fi

Predestination 2014

2 out of 5 stars.
I almost gave it 2.5 stars and suggested a drinking game, but seriously there are way better movies and games to watch and play.

Adult Stuff- Cheesy One Liners, Bad Language, Booze, Drugs, Puss, Blood, Bondage, Guts, Gore, Hoochie Girls, Boobs, Sex, Vagina, Penis, Penis Trauma

After 10- Ok, not a bad start, let's see where this goes.
After 40- Wow, a lot of talking, good dialogue, follows proper ebb and flow. I am starting to develop some theories.  This is not the action flick I was hoping for but let's see where it is going and if I'm right.
By The End- Took a long time to tell this tale, and I am no expert but I am pretty sure this couldn't.  Check the spoilers, there will be lots!

After Checking IMDB- Starring Ethan Hawke and Sarah Snook.  Directed by Michael and Peter Spierig who wrote this based on a 1958 short story by Robert A Heinlein.

The acting, sets, sound and production were good.  I have no complaints with that regard.  If you want to save yourself almost 100 minutes read the spoilers and try wrap your head around temporal mechanics.

Or read the short story, and let your imagination run wild.  Either way, I am pretty sure I could come up with 100 better things to do then watch this movie and then try stop your brain from trying to understand the mechanics of it.

If reading this review saves you from watching the movie please feel free to send me 10 of the 100 minutes you've saved, maybe I can get the time back!!! LOL

Misery (1990)

Misery (1990)

This review is going to be a little different.  In honor of throw back Thursday, and I was reminded of this movie after watching The Walking Dead episode 3 season 6 "where Glenn falls into the Zombie mosh pit by the garbage bin."

**On a personal note my fiancee and daughters we in hysterics when this happened, and that wasn't even the end of the episode!!  Thank you Scott M Gimple; not!**

With all the shady goings on pertaining to Glenn's apparent death, (see spoilers below if you must) it reminded me of this movie.

I have read the book at least 3 times, seen the movie at least as many times, so watching it again was not a hard decision.

Now this is a thriller, and could almost be a cabin in the woods style flick, there are really not a lot of actors or effects, it is an old school crazy ass tale about a writer and his #1 fan.

It is not a hacker, slasher, scary jump out of the dark and stab you in the face movie, it is a tense uneasy film where you as the viewer try to imagine what you would or could do if you were screwed like the protagonist.

I enjoyed the actors, sets, and dialogue; they were directed together to give this film an eerie something isn't right vibe that just keeps climbing till you know shit is bad and now what are you gonna do about it!!

An easy 4 stars out of 5, recommendation for anyone who likes that uneasy queasy feeling.

Until next time everybody, remember, Protect Your Privates.

**
-Bad camera angle on death scene
-No memoriam  on the talking dead
-Called Rick "dumbass" a reference to the first season where they first met, which is also the season that Rick and Glenn use "Zombie camo" to walk past zombies.

The Root of the Problem (2012 short)

The Root of the Problem (2012 short)

4 stars out of 5.

A well done interestingly creepy short that I feel quiet certain will be hated by a good number of people just because of the topic,  (Spoiler** Dentists)

Directed by Ryan Spindell who also shares the writing credit with Mark E. Davidson.

The actors in this short do a great job, but I feel with this short the real star here is the set and atmosphere that the writer and director bring to life so quickly in the short.  I felt uneasy right from the start and it continued to grow with the help of the actors.

I have to agree with Ivan Kander's write up, this flick has an "old-school scare" feel to it, which is great; and an easy one to recommend.

Until next time everybody, remember, Protect Your Privates!

Tremors 5

Tremors 5

 4 out of 5 stars.

Adult Stuff- Cheesy One Liners, Bad Language, Booze, Drugs, Puss, Blood, Bondage, Guts, Gore, Hoochie Girls, Boobs, Sex, Vagina, Penis, Penis Trauma

After 10- Alright, you have my attention.  But keep in mind that this is number 5, I enjoyed the first 4, number 3 was a bit sketchy, but still not that bad.  So let's see how they do.
After 40- OK, let's see how this ends.
By The End- Not bad.  Story, effects, acting, all came together to make a 5th story worth watching.

After Checking IMDB- Directed by Don Michael Paul, story by M.A. Deuce, C.J. Strebor, William Truesmith and John Whelpley is mentioned there too.  Staring Michael Gross as the unstoppable Burt Gummer.

I am a Tremors fan from the first one; and I have seen all the others so it seems only natural to me that I would make the time for the 5th.  The combination of physical and cgi is pretty good,  couldn't find mention of the budget, but it sure did look like a nicely produced film.  Over all this movie is an easy one to recommend.  Fun with frights and worm guts. (Seriously you can't have a Tremors movie without throwing around buckets of worm guts!!)

Until next time everybody, remember, Protect Your Privates!

-Loved the cave drawings, nice touch!!
-Called bloodlines for a reason, which is a nice way to ensure you could do more if, or when someone wants.

Nurse 3D

Nurse 3D
2015
Directed by Douglas Aarniokoski who shares the writing credit with David Loughery

Staring:
Paz de la Huerta- gotta watch more stuff with her in it.
Katrina Bowden, fan since 30 rock and have only enjoyed her more thanks to Tucker and Dale vs Evil, and Piranha 3DD
Judd Nelson so many roles!!

3.5 out of 5 stars.

Adult StuffCheesy One Liners, Bad Language, Booze, Drugs, Puss, Blood, Bondage, Guts, Gore, Hoochie Girls, Boobs, Sex, Vagina, Penis, Penis Trauma

After 10- 10 minutes! not even, I was sold on this flick before the credits stopped rolling.  The story, the look, and Paz... what can I say, she has a unique look and voice that for some reason drew this viewer in and I think I have become an instant fan.
After 40- spoiler** reminds me of single white female meets american mary.
By The End- An interesting tale, but by the end I was no where near as excited as I was when we started.  Some interesting uses of the 3D, but I can't say the story didn't fall into some cliches.  Which was to bad, it had laid the ground work in the beginning for an interesting sit up and take notice story.
As for Katrina Bowden her character does evolve, and the role she is needed to play is valid, but I don't know if we care enough about the character to be overly interested.

Overall this movie is very nicely done, well acted, looks great, and is not poorly written.  If you are young enough that you didn't watch single white female, the hand that rocks the cradle or fatal attraction then this movie was probably written for you.  If you enjoyed this flick, go back and watch the classics, because parts of this movie seem to be inspired by or are paying homage to them.  If you have seen the classics, then you could skip this one, but I think you'd be missing out.

Until next time everybody, remember, Protect Your Privates!

Spoilers**

TBH- I was really hoping i would get to see Katrina Bowden play an evil role.  Seeing her as a friendly ditz is fine, but I mean really, can we not give this young lady a chance to spread her wings?  Maybe she likes the roles thou, maybe she doesn't want to try the dark side.

As for the story, it's too bad that it fell into and followed the cliches, some of which I do not think would be possible in today's world,

I give this perfectly good peak into one day of a lonely man's post ZA life 3 stars out of 5.  There is nothing wrong with this short.  Well executed, acted, edited, scored.  It is just that we do not see anything we haven't really seen before.

If you love Zombies, and like Love, and have 11 minutes to kill, give this flick a look.

If you wanna play the "what if game" this one is good for a short conversation you've probably already had.

As for me, Josie and I have had many conversations, and this one is no exception, if you're curious, the answer is in the spoilers.

Tried to look it up on IMDB and was unable to find it, which is kind of disappointing, but not really a surprise to me.  I had to get most of the information about this flick and it's writer/director from the write up by Rob Munday.  As I have become accustomed too, Rob is fun and informative in his post flick write up, and if you are gonna watch the flick, you should give it a read.

Until next time everybody, remember, Protect Your Privates!

**Spoilers**
This 11 minute short is what I expect the undead love child of  "28 days later" and "the walking dead" comics to look like.

Or maybe if you took the Governor from the walking dead and moved him to the UK,

Or Night of the living dead, 3d remake mates with 28 days later.

If either of us were undead flesh eating mindless monsters, we'd have to be put down, the less undead there are the better chance the rest can survive.

The Town that Dreaded Sundown (2014)

The Town Dreaded Sundown (2014)

4 out of 5 stars.

Adult Stuff- Cheesy One Liners, Bad Language, Booze, Drugs, Puss, Blood, Bondage, Guts, Gore, Hoochie Girls, Boobs, Sex, Vagina, Penis, Penis Trauma

After 10- Say it all the time!!  Love movies that start with action.
After 40- The use of words, signs, reflective surfaces and some camera angles are so refreshing.
By The End-  A well done movie, but...

After Checking IMDB-  Directed by Alfonso Gomez-Rejon, written by Roberto Aguirre-Sacasa (screenplay), and Earl E Smith (original).

This is a pretty good movie.  Starts off with action right out of the gate, the actors and the acting are good and note worthy. The use of some unique camera angles, reflective surfaces, signs and lighting add a unique feel to the movie which makes it enjoyable to watch.  It is not your run of the mill slasher flick following the same recipe.  Not long into the movie it becomes clear we are watching a grisly mystery.  Who is the killer?  Why are they doing it?  How will we catch them?  All great questions, but very hard to answer because we only know what we have been shown. Of course, our minds can not help but try to jump ahead and "guess" who the killer is and why.  Standard issues always apply; fear, rage, greed, jealously, whatever.  Which quickly and sadly brings us to the end of the movie, where I felt this flick lost a little.  The end felt a little rushed and incomplete.  Of course it leaves the door wide open for a sequel or prequel, but after such an enjoyable movie, I just don't feel the ending was as good as the build up to it.

Until next time everybody, remember, Protect Your Privates!

Charlie's Farm

Charlie's Farm

5 out of 5 stars.  Great, everything was great and I want more.  I was sad when it ended and hope there is a sequel.

Adult Stuff- Cheesy One Liners, Bad Language, Booze, Drugs, Puss, Blood, Bondage, Guts, Gore, Hoochie Girls, Boobs, Sex, Vagina, Penis, Penis Trauma

After 10- Love when movies start off with some excitement.  Got me hooked because of the look and it is from slaughter house and Daddy's Little Girl Writer Director Chris Sun.
After 40- How is it that Tara Reid is the only smart one?  I predict an "I told you so" coming up... lol.
By The End- Whoa and Holy!!  Awesome and so well done!!

After Checking IMDB- Written and directed by Chris Sun, who has 4 writing, directing, and producing credits (all his works). Tara Reid, Kane Hodder, Bill Moseley and Nathan Jones.

Where to start and what to say!!  My head is still swimming from this epic film.  Unique deaths are always welcome.   A bad guy that makes Kane look small?! Wow!  Mr. Hodder stands over 6 foot 2 inches tall and is such a well known actor (with over 100 acting credits) even I have had a chance to meet this legend of a man, and from what I have seen he loves his fans.  Of course we do not see him as Jason till part VII in 1988, but this is closer to the Jason I remember growing up.

Let me just say that the leap Chris Sun made from "Daddy's Little Girl" to "Charlie's Farm" is fantastic.  I am not just talking about fan favorite cast members and a budget 6 times larger, the story telling, pace and overall feel is great.  I am very sad to hear that "Boar" (the current Chris Sun project) is running into financial problems, and really hope it can get sorted, regardless, this fan can't wait for whatever comes next.

Until next time everybody, remember, Protect Your Privates!

Do You Believe In The Devil (short)

Do You Believe In The Devil

4 stars out of 5.

I must say the opening scene in the bathroom leaves me feeling like I need a shower, a long hot scolding shower, and even then I might not be able to clean it all off!!  Wow! What a set!  Gary Lee Mahmoud, played the drunk role well enough that I am sure I could feel my liver saying "See!!  That is what it looks like, it ain't pretty"  and my stomach saying "Ohhh GAWD! Don't remind me!"  The rich quality of set and situation in these opening moments roped me into this short easily.

About half way through I had a feeling where it was going.  I am sure I have seen to many shorts and movies in this genre, perhaps this is why I find it so hard to find something new, or maybe this is why I get so elated when I do.

Written and Directed by Alex Grybauskas who has 6 credits on IMDB.  Alex did a fine job and I will be looking for more of his work to watch and enjoy.  I did enjoy this short.  There were really good parts, but I have seen a lot, and that means it takes a little extra to catch me off guard.

But don't let my wrapped imagination and avid movie watching stop you.  Go get comfy, and enjoy this tale.

Jeepers Creepers 2

Jeepers Creepers 2

4.5 out of 5 stars.

Adult Stuff- Cheesy One Liners, Bad Language, Booze, Drugs, Puss, Blood, Bondage, Guts, Gore, Hoochie Girls, Boobs, Sex, Vagina, Penis, Penis Trauma

After 10- Oh I love when a movie doesn't slack!  Right out the gate we have "lift off" hahaha, spoiler pun!!
After 40- A mission, a situation, and a mystery!!! Oh I can't wait to see where it goes!!
By The End- Wow, great story, good acting and effects.  This movie had me right from the start and kept me to the end.  An easy and enjoyable watch, and an easy recommend.

After Checking IMDB- Victor Salva brings back the creeper, played by Johnathan Breck again, in this sequel that I thought was well done and made sense.  Often a sequel is "forced" or asks you to forget how the original ended or something, I am glad to say this is not the case with this sequel.

I always enjoy films where we get a little more back story and learn more about an interesting villain or monster, and this is one of them.  If you enjoyed the first one, and you wanna know more about the Creeper, I think you will enjoy this one too!

Until next time everybody, remember, Protect Your Privates!

Abe (2013 short)

Abe

4 stars out of 5.

An 8 minute villian's monologue to it's latest victim.  How much difference is there really between a sociopath and a robot.  My understanding is that sociopaths feel no differently about tables, chairs or tools they they do about friends and family.  They can recognize them for what they are, but can not connect to them.

Directed by Rob McLellan who shares the story credit with Sven Hornsey, poses a great "what if?" in this well done short.  In my mind if and when the robot is captured it will have to the destroyed, or decommissioned to the point where it can do no more harm.

Which brings me to my next point, why do we keep violent killing psychopaths and sociopaths alive?  They are dangerous and without remorse.... I digress, perhaps this is one of the what if's Rob and Sven wanted to encourage.  Either way, it was well done and had a great creepy feel to it which kept me uneasy and tense through out.

I hope you enjoy watching it and enjoy rolling the thoughts around in your head after wards.

Adult Stuff- Cheesy One Liners, Bad Language, Booze, Drugs, Puss, Blood, Bondage, Guts, Gore, Hoochie Girls, Boobs, Sex, Vagina, Penis, Penis Trauma

After 10- Oh yeah... who was that and what is going on!!
After 40- WTF!  I mean what is this thing, so many questions gotta keep watching.
By The End- Holy Wow!  Not without it's faults, but this is a unique bad guy, and a pretty well told  story.

After Checking IMDB- Gina Philips and Justin Long did a great job acting as well written siblings.  Jonathan Breck was a great villain, and Victor Salva wrote and directed a good movie.

Even with the flaws, faults and inconsistencies (not that there was a lot of them, but enough)  I was able to yell at the screen because of bad choices and dismiss some stuff to get back to enjoying the flick.  I feel this is a classic flick with a dark villain idea we have not seen before.  I easily recommend it for the uniqueness and quality.

Certified (short)

Certified (short)

4 out of 5 stars.

Wow, this 8 min 1950's themed short looks fantastic.  Like many of these shorts their success is completely dependent on all aspects of the film working together.  This short does not disappoint.  The look is great right out the gate with setting, lighting, and production.  Next the writing has to be on point to get the message across to the viewer, and it has to be supported by the score.  Finally the actors need to deliver believable dialogue.  This film is a joy to watch because it doesn't let the viewer down on any of these critical points.

Written and Directed by Luke Guidici, who has 8 credits as director as well as 8 writing credits.  I have not seen any of his other work, YET! Luke Guidici obviously had a clear image of his story, adapted from "The Open Window" by Saki, in mind and was able to clearly direct it right onto the screen.

Thomas Garner and Rebecca Spicher are the actors that bring this story to life and allow us to get drawn in and grabbed by this story.

The write up by Rob Munday is fun and informative, and worth the extra couple minutes for the read.

I am not saying that this story is without fault, I am saying that so many of the parts needed for a good story that pulls you and keeps you for a while are not only here, but here and done well.

The Offering (short 2013 )

The Offering

4 out of 5 stars.

This 7 minute short is well shot and well acted.  It is a great snap shot, that reminds me of something I can not place my finger on at this time.  This could be the beginning of a supernatural movie, but as a short, it is a glimpse into what must be a living hell for those involved.

https://www.shortoftheweek.com/2014/09/05/the-offering/

IMDB- Directed by Ryan Patch who has 7 director credits.
Written by Michael Koehler who has 3 writing credits.
Staring Bob Jaffe with 20 acting credits and Jared Mark Smith who has 3 credits.

Really not much can be said about this one, without giving away something.  It's only 7 minutes, and if you like to play the "what if" game then this can give you much more than that.  Give it a peak, I don't think you'll be disappointed.

I enjoyed the write up by Ben Watts after the flick, and I always enjoy hearing about the trials and challenges that directors over come to create a piece of art.

Until next time everybody, remember, Protect Your Privates!

Vienna Waits for You (short)

Vienna Waits for You (short)

4.5 stars out of 5.

This short is a little longer than the other ones on this site, but don't let that discourage you from watching it.  Freshen up your drink, sit back, relax, and enjoy.  I watched it a second time and I believe I picked up on a couple things I missed the first time.

From the first minute I was curious what was going on.  The actors did a great job setting the creepy vibe.  The effects department did a great job too.  And the location, wow, what an awesome job.  For what I can only describe as a mini budget at 25,000 euro this film is wonderfully done.  Sound, light, locations, camera work.  I could go on, but you should just watch it.  The write up by Ivan Kander is informative with regard to Director's ideas, and the effects, which are great.

Directed by Dominik Hartel, with 8 credits on IMDB I would be happy to see any thing else he has done or has coming out.   Writer Sarah Wassermair has 6 writing credits, I haven't seen any of her other work, but wouldn't mind changing that.

Starring Petra Staduan 5 credits and Alexander E Fennon 37 credits, I give these two mention because as an old lady I thought Petra did a great job and as a creepy manager I think Alexander sold it well.

Self-Assembly (2014)

Self-Assembly

4 out of 5 stars.

This 12 minute short is very unique to me.  I am unfamiliar with the comic it is based on and am quite sure I have not seen anything like it before.

Brilliantly done from the lack of dialogue, to the special effects (Spoiler scrotum skin) this short has a special way of telling a story.

Directed by Ray Sullivan and written by Cathal Duggan and Garret Shanley there is so much right with this film I hardly know where to begin.

Starring Darryl Kinsella and Amy Kirwan.  With 10 and 11 acting credits respectfully these two are not strangers to the field, and I feel without great performances from them this short would not be as good as it is.

The directer and VFX specialist Ray Sullivan did a great job.  Read the write up after the film by Rob Munday, the info he shares on the details of the movie are well worth the read.

If you have 12 minutes and are looking for something out of the ordinary feel free to give this one a try.

The Monkey's Paw (2013)

The Monkey's Paw (2013)

 3 out of 5 stars.

Adult Stuff- Cheesy One Liners, Bad Language, Booze, Drugs, Puss, Blood, Bondage, Guts, GoreHoochie Girls, Boobs, Sex, Vagina, Penis, Penis Trauma

After 10- We get to meet the characters, see the paw and are given some words of warning.  Starts with a hook, and it's still in there for now.
After 40- I have a love hate with these wish movies because my mind is always thinking "How can I make a wish it can't screw me with!?"  And that is the trick, you can't, so don't even!!!
By The End- An interesting revenge tale; but it left me feeling like something was missing.

After Checking IMDB- Directed by Brett Simmons who has 10 credits on IMDB,  Writing credits go to Macon Blair, his first screenplay, W.W. Jacobs the short story, and Adam Meyer and Justin Smith getting story credit.  This story dates back over 100 years.  IMDB has 11 film credits with this title, and I can not count how many shorts, and tv episodes have told this tale with their own spin.

When I pressed play on the Netflix and saw the "Chiller" logo, my heart skipped a beat with excitement, and I remembered I wanted to see this flick since I saw Beneath.  The acting and actors were fine, some familiar faces and some star look a likes.  The dialogue and effects were fine too; but nothing stood out in this film though.  I feel a little let down, I was hoping for more!

After watching the other Chiller Films I was excited for the next one.  The story, the up and coming actors really selling it.  The excitement of a small production house showing the big boys that it is not all about budget.  To me that is the feeling that the Chiller Logo fills me with, unfortunately that was not the case at the end of this movie.
I think Chiller is not to blame for the story, (sorry Brett and Macon), and I know not everything can be new, exciting and knocked out of the park.
I am still looking forward to watching their next project, I just can't say "I haven't seen a Chiller flick I couldn't wait to share with my friends" anymore.

Until next time everybody, remember, Protect Your Privates!

Dog Food (short 2014)

Dog Food (short 2014)

4 stars out of 5.

This short is smart and fun in an "oh no you didn't" kind of way.  Another "easy in the effects" film this movie follows the main character and his dog and it is through dialogue we start to understand the relationship they have.

It doesn't feel like an 18 minute tale, but make sure you have the time for it so you don't get interrupted.  I recommend taking the time to read the article by Ivan Kander after the flick.

Written and Directed by Brian Crano who has 10 director  and 5 writer credits on IMDB.

The 3 actors in this short do a great job.  Amanda Seyfried, with 43 actor credits, odds are you have seen her in something before, I know I sure have.  Cory Michael Smith and David Joseph Craig, although perhaps not as well know or recognized in some circles, are no slouches when it come to acting, and they do not disappoint.

As is the case when time and effects are an issue it is up to the actors to create and deliver the believable scenario the writer has envisioned.  Thankfully for this movie lover, this project had the right people doing the right things.

Here is a link to the flick, I hope you enjoy it.

Behold the Noose (short 2014)

Behold the Noose (short 2014)

3.5 out of 5 stars.

There is nothing wrong with this short.  It could easily be the beginning, middle or end of any movie in the genre.  Directed by Jamie Brooks who shares the writing credit with Sheldon Chick.

https://www.shortoftheweek.com/2014/10/28/behold-the-noose/

Jamie has 7 director credits and 6 writing credits, all seem to be shorts.  Sheldon has 4 writing credits, also in the short genre.  These two have "Bomb City" coming out in 2016, I do not know if I will watch it only because it is a crime flick.

The write up on Behold the Noose is done by Rob Munday, and the behind the scenes about this flick is why I gave it 3.5 stars.  I suggest you watch the flick, read the write up and watch it again to appreciate the amount of work put into it.  If you are a new director I suggest you watch this flick to see what can be done on a schedule.

I figure if Jamie and Sheldon can come up with this while over coming the challenges, then I look forward to what they can do with  more time and money.

Until next time everybody, remember, Protect Your Privates!

Exit (short 2012)

Exit (short 2012)

4 out of 5 stars

This tense tale starts off quite well.  Doesn't take long to establish how you feel about the few characters you are meeting.  The acting is very well done and the set looks great.  Keeping in mind I am not a historian and could not begin to tell you anything about what era this or that is from, I think got the feel for the era the director was going for.

Ivan Kander does the write up below the movie, and I have to agree with him that it has a twilight zone feel to it.  Directed by Daniel Shea Zimbler (aka Daniel Zimbler), which he adapted from a short story of the same name by Harry Farjeon.  Daniel has 5 writing credits, 4 Directing credits and a  few other credits for editing, producing and acting on IMDB.

If you like watching a well acted flick that is creepy, intense and haunting; give this 12 minute short a viewing.

Panic Button (2011)

Panic Button (2011)

4 stars out of 5.

Adult Stuff- Cheesy One Liners, Bad Language, Booze, Drugs, Puss, Blood, Bondage, Guts, GoreHoochie Girls, Boobs, Sex, Vagina, Penis, Penis Trauma

After 10- I have seen these game show horror type shows before, and always enjoy the unique and creative craziness, but I don't know if I would get selected for it.  Or if I would sign up for it.  So far this one has me interested.
After 40- Oh my gawd!  Who... what... how??? I can't wait to see what happens.
By The End- Holy SNAP! How is this only a 2 star on Netflix?  What a great story idea, and the only way it could have been delivered so well was with actors that brought it home.  I mean great!  If you like thrillers that rope you in, tie you up, and keep you guessing till the end then sit down, get comfy and enjoy the ride.

After Checking IMDB- Oh wow!! Where to start!  So much I wanna say! Chris Crow is the director who shares the writing credit with Frazer Lee, John Shackleton and David Shillitoe.  This is Chris's 3rd completed project with number 4 in post-production.  I want to track down his other 2 flicks and see how they are.  This is the only non-short writing credit for Frazer.  John only has 3 other writing credits.  David also has co-producer credit on this film.
This team of writers delivered an intriguing story that caught my attention and kept it till the end.  I started this movie thinking I knew what was going on,(1)*   Part of what makes a good story better, is timing.  A good story teller feeds you important info about the story so that you can keep up, or at least follow along.  In this story I found I would be asking myself "Why did this happen?" Or "Why is this important?"  And after a few moments, while the question is still in my mind and I am trying to piece it together, we get another piece that gives us clarity or understanding,  With that clarity or understanding more of the story is revealed to us and we as viewers can progress along with the story.  It is a great technique for involving the viewer; and it is done very well in this film.  If you don't pay attention to the movie and dialogue, you could easily miss something important that might lessen your enjoyment of the film.

The 300,000 pound budget for this movie I feel was spent well.  I think they told a great story for such a small budget, and I feel the only way they could have accomplished it was with the acting talents they found.

I do not want anyone to feel excluded, but I am giving my main shout outs to the 4 main characters on the plane.

Scarlett Alice Johnson 14 credits mostly TV
Jack Gordon 25 acting credits including Wrong Turn 3
Michael Jibson 31 acting credits, I knew I had seen him before.  Some of these were other projects with Chris.
Elen Rhys has 20 acting credits, mostly TV and some other work with Chris also.

A small budget, psychological thriller like this needs to be delivered properly.  Your talent has to be on point.  Without the talent it would be easy for someone to get lost, distracted or lose interest in the story.  For me these actors took a good story and delivered it well, which made it better.

Until next time everybody, remember, Protect Your Privates!

**Think they would have mentioned that in the terms and conditions?

Zombie Resurrection (2014)

Zombie Resurrection (2014)

1.5 out of 5 stars.  Made it through thanks to the fast forward button.

Adult Stuff- no clue, couldn't watch it.

After 10- Errrmagerd!!!  This movie, after 10 minutes looks like it has all the pieces it needs to be a decent movie.  It's got a prisoner, a couple military guys.  a slut, a business man, & his daughter, then a religious zealot of some sort. Then some random guy, blah blah.  It even has a neat cartoon style intro.
After 40- Looks like they are in a church or something.
By The End- I am soooooooo happy it's over.

After Checking IMDB- DANG! It sounds like an interesting movie idea, but the acting and dialogue drove me away so fast.  Based on the £100,000 budget, it looked ok.

This flick looked like it had the components for a really interesting zombie film. I do not know what it was about it, but I could not make it through the flick.  I want to know what happened, I know I missed important dialogue, but every time the actors opened their mouths I hit the fast forward button.

Written and Directed by Andy Phelps and Jake Hawkins who are both very new to IMDB.   All of Andy's credits are related to this movie and Jake has a previous short in 2012 and currently filming another movie.  Let me reiterate; this movie seemed to have the right parts, but the acting and dialogue stopped me from being able to get into the movie. In my opinion, for the budget they had these two did ok. I 'm sure some people loved the film, or at least enjoyed the low budget campy feel.  I would not write off these two writer/directors yet; this was a good effort for an emerging artist and I would give the next piece from them at least a 10 minute test.

Until next time everybody, remember, Protect Your Privates!

The actors, they spoiled the movie for me.

Unedited Footage of a Bear (2014 short)

3.5 stars out of 5.

This 10 minute short is a unique idea, and this topic is a source of entertainment and amusement for my household.

If you got 10 minutes to kill and could use a laugh, you could try this one.  I thought the use of imagery and music helped tell the story.

After Checking IMDB-  Written and Directed by Greg Francis, everything else on this IMDB is TV work.  I can not say enough.  I have not seen any of his other work, but based on this movie alone I would be happy to see anything else by this man.  Regarding the actors;
Ron Perlman is one of my favorite actors.  He has been one of my favorites since before I even knew his name.  He's been acting almost as long as I have been alive and he seems afraid of no role.  Whether just his voice, or him in full make up to the point where you almost can not recognize him, to minimal make up roles where once you see him you become more invested in the flick.  Ron Perlman is a breaktaking force in the entertainment world.  I have only seen a handful of his interviews, but he seems like a real person who has been around long enough to know the truth, (almost jaded) about how the machine works.  He seems to embrace his natural talent and I love IT!
Giancarlo Esposito is an actor whom I have enjoyed since Breaking Bad.  Now this statement does nothing to show this man's extensive filmography.  Acting since 1952 this man is a good actor, and when I see him I light up a little.
I feel the bad guy did a great job.  I thought the way he moved and allowed his body language to say what his face could not because of the mask was a success for himself and the director.

This movie is an action crime thriller, and it had me hooked in the first 10 minutes.  A story that brings you in, characters that get you interested, and a mystery that is screaming to be solved.
If you like thrillers, or a good mystery, this movie is an easy recommend.

Until next time everybody, remember, Protect Your Privates!

Breathe (short)

Breathe (short) 2013

4.5 stars out of 5.

It only takes 5 minutes, and you might want to watch it twice just to be sure you can take in everything.

Initial thoughts-
starts right off,
 stuff? what?
WOW! Neat.

This 5 minute short wastes no time.  It gets right into the setup and dialogue, both of which are well done.  The score on this short is great at setting the tone subtly.

I could find nothing about this short on IMDB and had to go back to the site https://www.shortoftheweek.com/2015/02/09/breathe/  to find more details.

Director Toby Meakins, has 9 director credits and 4 writer credits on IMDB.  I can not wait to track down some more of his work.

Simon Allen has 14 writing credits on IMDB, and it looks like some are shared with Toby Meakins, so again I look forward to viewing some of the other works from this duo.

The cast; Jack North, Josef Altin and Orion Ben, were all believable and made the story easy to watch.

This seems to be Jack's only credit at the time, and when searching IMDB for him it brought up "Breathe" right away.

Josef is no stranger to IMDB and I am sure we will continue to enjoy seeing his contributions to entertainment continue.

Orion has only 6 actress credits, starting in 2013.  I think it is safe to say her career is just starting, and we can look forward to seeing more with her as well.

With no immediate IMDB link for me to follow and find info on I scrolled down and read the article by Ivan Kander.  His article is informative and honest and without being long winded.  If you enjoy this movie please take a sec and read the article and maybe share it, perhaps we can get the bigger project up and running.

Until next time everybody, remember, Protect Your Privates!

Clown (2014)

Clown (2014)

4.5 out of 5 stars.

Adult Stuff- Cheesy One Liners, Bad Language, Booze, Drugs, Puss, Blood, Bondage, Guts, Gore, Hoochie GirlsBoobsSex, Vagina, Penis, Penis Trauma

After 10- Seems like a harmless idea.  Kid wants a clown, be a good dad, be a clown.  Looks good, good acting too.
After 40- WOW!! The story flows nicely and I am totally invested.  Can't wait to see how it ends.
By The End- Wow! A well done story.  Good acting and camera work.  Don't want to spoil anything, but put aside your assumptions and enjoy the show.

After Checking IMDB- This flick is directed by Jon Watts, who shares the writing credit with Christopher D Ford.  Let me just say great.  Also, Eli Roth produced it.  I am an Eli Roth fan, as readers of this blog know, and when I heard he had a hand in this flick I was on board.  The special effects and the way the story makes you feel I thought was fantastic.  I think if you have enjoyed anything from Eli Roth in the past you will enjoy this also.

Until next time everybody, remember, Protect Your Privates!

*I do not want to spoil anything, pop some popcorn, assume nothing, and enjoy this movie.
*Who doesn't love Peter Stormare?

The Elevator: Three minutes can change your life (2013)

The Elevator: Three minutes can change your life. (2013)

1.5 out of 5 stars.  Made it through with the help of the fast forward button.  I didn't use it much, but it just kept dragging.

Adult Stuff- Cheesy One Liners, Bad Language, Booze, Drugs, Puss, Blood, Bondage, Guts, Gore, Hoochie Girls, Boobs, Sex, Vagina, Penis, Penis Trauma

After 10- Kinda slow and subtle, but enough mystery and intrigue that I will give it another 10 minutes.  I enjoyed how the film let us learn about the main character.
After 20- Wow! Enter crazy vill! Now I have twice as many questions and the answers better be good.
After 40- Enter fart noise here! This movie is shitting the elevator.  Check the spoilers, but I have the ffwd button ready to go and am prepared to start using it.
By The End- WTF!  Check the spoilers for my rant!!

After Checking IMDB- Massimo Coglitore Directed this film written by Mauro Graiani and Riccardo Irrera.  I am not familiar with these people, and most of their other work is in a language I don't speak, or on a tv channel I don't watch.  That being said there were some good parts to the film, and if you are a hard core psycho thriller fan you might very well enjoy this movie and forgive the holes I couldn't.

Until next time everybody, remember, Protect Your Privates!

Spoilers**

*I didn't hate the idea behind this story, in fact it was nice surprise, I hadn't heard that one before. Maybe if the delivery had not dragged on and followed a better, more believable, plan, I could have given this flick 3 or 3.5 stars.
*I enjoy suspending disbelief as much as the next guy, but the inconceivable star alignment of mother's revenge, high tech gadgets, an old guard, stupid neighbors and a strange msg on a voice mail... REALLY?!?
*Why not in his apartment?
*Ever hear of redial?
*No one called 911?
*If you knew about Anna wouldn't you know about the sis?
*If google is working how hard would it be to check?

The Last Time I Saw Richard (short)

The Last Time I Saw Richard (short)

This is another short from the https://www.shortoftheweek.com/channels/horror/

I am loving this site and fighting the urges to binge watch everything they have to offer.

I give this flick 4 stars out of 5.

After watching it I thought different, dark, tense and unnerving.  I enjoyed the camera work in this flick, and I enjoyed the well played out non dialogue between the characters.  Teenage boys are not know for verbal communication, and I thought these two did a great job.

Interesting characters, even though we don't know a lot about them.  We only spend 20 minutes with them, but I couldn't help but feel like I wanted to know more.

Because this short left me wanting more, and the parts it gave me I enjoyed this is an easy recommend.

Directed by Nicholas Verso who shares the writing credit for this short with Paul Welsh, neither of which is a stranger to IMDB. I would be happy to view any of the other projects they have done, or do in the future.

As for the stars Cody Fern and Toby Wallace; I thought they both did great and hope they continue to get roles they can bring their skills too.

Until next time everybody, remember, Protect Your Privates!

It Follows (2014)

It Follows (2014)

4.5 out of 5 stars.

Adult Stuff- Cheesy One Liners, Bad Language, Booze, Drugs, Puss, Blood, Bondage, Guts, Gore, Hoochie Girls, Boobs, Sex, Vagina, Penis, Penis Trauma

After 10- Starts off with mystery, excitement and a terrible looking death.
After 40- Lots of suspense and intrigue.
By The End- Wow!!  I enjoyed this unique idea, and am filled with "what if "questions.  See the spoilers for them.

After Checking IMDB- This movie only had a 2 mill budget, and let me just say, maybe more films should be made in Michigan.  I mean, it seems like your money can go further there.

David Robert Mitchell is the writer and Director of only this and 2 other films, and let me just say I look forward to seeing what else he may do in the future.

After checking his facebook  page he mentions being available for Q&A after one of his screenings and I would love to see what was asked and how it was answered.  See if any of my "what ifs" got answered.

With regard to some of the reviews on IMDB I will agree that some of the actions of characters and the "it" didn't make sense, but for goodness sake's, where would horror films be if not for poor choices?  I mean who hasn't yelled at the screen, "No, don't go upstairs to check out ..." or "Don't open the door.." "Don't split up and look for your missing ..." Without these actions we would not know what NOT to do.

This movie was shot beautifully, and was not loaded with those cheap, pop up surprise starts.  The tension and mystery that comes from not knowing if everyone can see that person just walking there, well done!

Until next time everybody, remember, Protect Your Privates!

Waterborne (short)

Waterborne (short)

I give this short 3.5 out of 5 stars.  Easily worth the watch with good production.  The acting and Dialogue are ok also.

I love the site https://www.shortoftheweek.com/channels/horror/.  It takes everything I have not to binge watch this site until I have seen everything it has to offer, but I am pacing myself and giving reviews.

This site keeps adding the best shorts it can find.  Right after I watched this flick I saw that The Nerdist on facebook also was sharing it.

Director Ryan Coonan I thought did a very good job, and according to his IMDB at this time he has 2 other shorts under his director credits which I will be keeping my eye out for to watch.
Written by , Ryan Coonan and Richard Barcaricchio I liked the idea.  This is Richard Barcaricchio's only writing credit according to his IMDB, but I would be interested in seeing anything else from him in the future.

Until next time everybody, remember, Protect Your Privates!

No Spoilers, it's only like 10 minutes, and that includes the credits, go watch it if you're curious.

The Man in the House (short) 2015

The Man in the House (short) 2015

I give this 17 min and 52 second short horror film 3 stars out of 5.

Written, Directed, Filmed and Edited by Chris Markwardt

Official Selection Speechless Film Festival 2015.

I think if you have 20 minutes to spare you should give this short a watch.  I did not get it.  It is a very interesting film full of interesting visuals.  I think Chris did a great job and I enjoyed it for that reason.

Here is the link to
themaninthehouse.com
This link will bring you to the page for the movie and you can learn more about Chris Markwardt.

Here is the link:

I love shorts!! Whether as an intro to the industry, or a platform for the under funded, or maybe that is all you had to say at the time.  Whatever the reason, shorts are great.

Adult Stuff- Cheesy One Liners, Bad Language, Booze, Drugs, Puss, Blood, Bondage, Guts, Gore, Hoochie Girls, Boobs, Sex, Vagina, Penis, Penis Trauma

Number 23

Number 23 (2007)

4 out of 5 stars.

After 10- interesting idea and camera work.  The story has me interested and I love Jim Carrey so let's see where it is going.
After 40- I am on board.  The story is a little tame, not a lot of blood and visuals, but lots to think about and it is fun watching the number 23 every where.
By The End- NICE! An interesting story that succeeds at grabbing your attention, and making you wonder what will happen next.

Adult Stuff- Cheesy One Liners, Bad Language, Booze, Drugs, Puss, Blood, Bondage, Guts, Gore, Hoochie Girls, Boobs, Sex, Vagina, Penis, Penis Trauma

After Checking IMDB- First: a 32 mill budget!  Wow, I wonder how much was to pay for Mr. Carrey?  Second, the director is Joel Schumacher.  With 32 director credits, 8 of them I have definitely seen and enjoyed.  Third, Fernley Phillips is the writer and co-producer, and this is the only credit at this time on their IMDB.

Over all the story, imagery and acting make this film worth a watch.  Pour a fresh drink, sit back, make sure the phone is off and the volume is up so you don't miss anything.  When the story slows enough for you to pause make a fresh drink and make note of the time, does it add up to 23?

Until next time everybody, remember, Protect Your Privates!

Spoilers**
* I don't want to give away anything, but if I have to spoil something Jim Carrey is a funny man.  I have enjoyed many of his funny films.  THIS IS NOT A FUNNY FILM!  I agree with the reviewers that say they are not used to seeing Jim Carrey in a non comedy role.
*Do not let your preconceived notions of Jim Carrey distract you from the story being told.

Dragon Wolf 2013

Dragon Wolf 2013

1 out of 5 stars.  Could not do it.  I made it through the 10 minutes, barely!

Adult Stuff- Cheesy One Liners, Bad Language, Booze, Drugs, Puss, Blood, Bondage, Guts, Gore, Hoochie Girls, Boobs, Sex, Vagina, Penis, Penis Trauma

After 10- I turned it off.  Errmagerd!!
After 40-
By The End-

Acting and Dialogue were bad.
"Promise me, you will not cry."  I was almost in tears of pain after 5 minutes of this flick.
The fighting- HA! I was fighting to make it through the first 10 mintues!
Even the boobs and sex were not enough to keep me interested.

After Checking IMDB- The write up on this flick sounds like a reasonable action flick.  The story idea is just as valid as any other.  With a budget estimated at over 3 million dollars I honestly expected more.

If you are looking for an action flick pass this one over.  If you can't find something new to watch then re watch a classic.  If you are too young to have seen the 80's action flicks when they first came out then watch one of them and have a laugh too.

Until next time everybody, remember, Protect Your Privates!

Spoilers**

* The best part of the first 10 minutes was the cartoon credits and story.  Maybe if they would have done the whole movie that way it would have been easier to watch.

Wolves 2014

Wolves 2014

4 out of 5 stars.

Adult Stuff- Cheesy One Liners, Bad Language, Booze, Drugs, Puss, Blood, Bondage, Guts, Gore, Hoochie Girls, Boobs, Sex, Vagina, Penis, Penis Trauma

After 10- Something about the flick has a slightly lower budget feel to it.  Can't put my finger on it.  Reminds me of a darker teen wolf meets a less cheesy wolf cop.  The story, acting and look are enough for me to give it more time and see where it goes.
After 40- Ok ;-) We have a story brewing here.  Not bad, some unique ideas worked nicely into the story.  Let's see where it goes.
By The End- It's Canadian!!  That's what I couldn't put my finger on.  Usually a Canadian flick sticks out like a sore thumb.  This one did a great job.  Good story, good clean up, nice ending for seeing these characters further down the road perhaps.

After checking IMBD. That is a good size budget, in my mind, and the effects and locations I feel were justified.  I agree with one reviewer who said "Still a better love story that Twilight" lol.
I thought Copperheart Entertainment did a good job, and after checking the IMDB I realized this house is not new to the Werewolf genre, see Ginger Snaps 2000.

Of course TF1 international and Telefilm Canada get props also, their IMDB are so big I can't get into it here.

If you are looking for a slightly different Werewolf story with out a mega budget or superstar line up then give this one a chance.

Until next time everybody, remember, Protect Your Privates!

Spoilers**

*Little light on the gore.
*It's Canadian. eh.

The Descent Part 2 (2009)

The Descent Part 2 (2009)

2.5 out of 5 stars.  All lost points because of WTF moments.

Adult Stuff- Cheesy One Liners, Bad Language, Booze, Drugs, Puss, Blood, Bondage, Guts, Gore, Hoochie Girls, Boobs, Sex, Vagina, Penis, Penis Trauma

After 10- Feels like we are starting off a little faster than last time.  We do not need to establish the characters as much.
After 40- I have some issues with how the story has progressed so far, but not bad enough to stop the flick.  For the most part the movie is on point, there are just some points I will rant aboot after.  On to the end!!
By The End- WTF!! Argh! Check the spoilers for my rant!!

After Checking IMDB-  Directed by Jon Harris, at this time this is his only Director credit, however as an editor he has 27 credits and 6 of those are movies I have enjoyed.
Writing Credits to James McCarthy, J Blakeson, James Watkins and Neil Marshall. (From the first Descent)  The first 3 writing credits go to people I am not familiar with, and who do not have a lot on their credits list.  Neil Marshall has more credits under his belt, some more familiar titles and some I have even seen and enjoyed.

This movie is well enough acted, produced, good sound, and has all the right pieces for a good movie.  If not for the parts of the story that, to me, made no sense or seemed inconsistent, this could have been a 4 star movie. I look forward to seeing more from any of these writers or directors in the future.

Until next time everyone, remember, Protect Your Privates!

Spoilers**

Rant after 40- Claims to remember nothing, then when in the caves doesn't have a fit!  When she starts to remember and doesn't head for the exit or warn the others!!  Instead she runs deeper into the caves!!  WTF! Luckily this movie had me more curious about the ending than I was able to be frustrated by the crap.

Rant at the end- WTF! 1) Why would he do that?  This makes no sense to me.  I can not figure out what that guy has to gain from keeping these things a secret.  Maybe that is a prequel waiting to happen?
2) I know we didn't see Juno get killed, but seriously, how would she have survived?
3) I am still not pleased with the discrepancies in the creatures, mostly with how they hunt.

I will leave it at this, but if anyone wants to comment or debate, or maybe has any answers, please comment.

Thx for reading.

Zodiac Signs of the Apocalypse 2014

Zodiac Signs of the Apocalypse

1.5 out of 5 stars.  Could not watch every minute.

A made for TV movie I saw none of these worth mentioning while I was fast forwarding for a part worth watching.
Adult Stuff- Cheesy One Liners, Bad Language, Booze, Drugs, Puss, Blood, Bondage, Guts, Gore, Hoochie Girls, Boobs, Sex, Vagina, Penis, Penis Trauma

After 10- I started fast forwarding.
After 40-
By The End-

After Checking IMDB- I have to agree with the reviewer that says "Generic and predictable..."

David Hogan director. With 9 credits on his IMDB, most of them music related, I can not say I will be waiting with baited breath for his next project.  His effort is not bad, it's just not exciting.
David Sanderson writer.  Most of his 20 credits are story editor, which could mean he had the final say, or maybe he was the spell checker.  All I know is I was not able to make it through this movie, If you are looking for a sleep aid, this might do the trick.

Until next time everybody, remember, Protect Your Privates!

Spoilers**

A boring run on the treadmill.  Same old same old, not much note worthy in this flick.  If you are in the mood for a disaster movie, pick something else.

Coffin baby

Coffin Baby

1 out of 5 stars.  Uggggh- could not make it through.

After 10- I turned it off!!!
After 40-
By The End-

So I don't know if there are any:
Adult Stuff- Cheesy One Liners, Bad Language, Booze, Drugs, Puss, Blood, Bondage, Guts, Gore, Hoochie Girls, Boobs, Sex, Vagina, Penis, Penis Trauma

Spoilers**    Rant@#

I was hopeful for the first couple minutes, black and white history with a transition into present day.  A young lady looking over her shoulder as she walks home.  Alright I thought, this has the basic building blocks for success; let's go.  Then the poop!!  The characters started talking and the acting and dialogue was so poor, and poorly delivered I could not keep going.  I have a high tolerance for poor dialogue and acting, but this was more than I could stand.

Even now as I type this I think "This is someone's project.  This is someone's hard work and effort.  They raised money, scouted locations, had story boards and explained their idea so many times to so many people.  They must have poured hours of work into all the details they could to tell this story."

And I could not make it past 10 minutes.  I compare this to tween girls talking about something in their day.  Take a high pitched voice and speed it up to an impatient blur.  Now add chewy gum and no proper pauses for punctuation. Keep in mind that you probably know nothing about the characters involved in the story or why we care what happened.  And try to listen to the story.

Dean Jones is the make up effects artist turned director for this flick.  He also has writing credit with Josh Edwards, who has co-writer credit on Dark Awakening.  In an attempt to understand what went wrong with Coffin Baby I am going to give the 10 minute test to Dark Awakening if I can find it and Toolbox Murders, which Coffin Baby is the apparent sequel too.

The tag line for Coffin Baby is " If you can't be something great...do something terrible."
Well, Coffin Baby was not something great, so I guess they went with the other option.

Until next time everybody, remember, Protect Your Privates!

Tucker and Dale vs Evil

Tucker and Dale vs Evil

4.5 out of 5 stars. great story, acting and writing with good or better effects.

Adult Stuff- Cheesy One Liners, Bad Language, Booze, Drugs, Puss, Blood, Bondage, Guts, Gore, Hoochie Girls, Boobs, Sex, Vagina, Penis, Penis Trauma

After 10- I'm sold!!  Love the actors I've seen before, and love the idea.
After 40-  HAHAHA I am sold!!  Can't wait to see how it ends!!
By The End- OMG!!!  One of the best, most original movies I have seen since Shawn of the Dead.  Unique idea, great acting and writing, if there was a sequel or prequel I would sign up right away.

I can not say enough about this movie, in fact, I don't want to say anything because it is just such a good entertaining movie I just want you to watch it and hope you like it half as much as I do.

Until next time everybody, remember, Protect Your Privates!

The Descent 2005

The Descent

3.5 out of 5 stars.

Adult Stuff- Cheesy One Liners, Bad Language, Booze, Drugs, Puss, Blood, Bondage, Guts, Gore, Hoochie GirlsBoobs, Sex, Vagina, Penis, Penis Trauma

After 10- 2 deaths by car accident, fast forward 1 year and the girls are meeting up again.
After 40- taking time establishing back stories etc.  Good acting, story and effects.  Let's see where this is going.
By The End- a leave you guessing flick.

Another under ground tight places movie.  Now this one looks good, in fact some of the places look fantastic, but because of where they are, odds are I will never see them in person.  Thank goodness for hd 3d tv.  HAHA.  The story is good and told well with out spitting everything out at once or what not.  Some people might find it a little slow, but I feel your mind knows something isn't right and is slowly working on the problem and paying attention to the dialogue for the clues to put everything together.  Unfortunately I don't like wishy washy endings; and in my mind you shouldn't launch a sequel off uneven soil.  I have not seen the second one, that is next weeks movie, and maybe my opinion will change after I see how they do it.

All this said, it was an ok flick, and the comments suggest that the end is open to interpretation.  That is where the points are lost for me.  If you like cave tight spaces movies, give this one a watch.

Until next time everybody, remember, Protect Your Privates!

Spoilers**

*Seriously some beautiful looking caves, could not physically go there.
*The mental snap seems sudden and extreme, but I think she had one foot over the edge already.
*I could nit pick the SNAP out of the creatures.  I mean really, for a blind creature with an apparent lack of smell, it finds some prey sooooo easy, and yet others get passed over more than once.
*The fact that there is discussion about the ending and there is a sequel suggests to me that I am not the only one that felt the ending was clear, and now there is back peddling.  But I may have to amend this note after I watch the sequel.
